As part of the project to support the Furniture Sector in North Lebanon which is operated by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization - UNIDO in cooperation with the Ministry of Industry since 2016 and funded by the Japanese people, a delegation from the Embassy of Japan headed by H.E. Mr. Matahiro Yamaguchi, Ambassador of Japan to Lebanon and UNIDO headed by Cristiano Pasini representing the United Nations Industrial Development Organization in Lebanon, Syria and Jordan, together with the Director General of the Ministry of Industry Dani Jadoun, visited the site of the first-ranked project won by the Faculty of Architecture-Design and Built Environment at BAU-Tripoli. This project came first in the "Design and City" competition held at the Beirut Design Week in order to select the best design and implementation of street furniture in one of the public places within the Mena area – Tripoli. The delegation was welcomed at BAU by the Dean of Student Affairs Professor Soubhi Abou Chahine representing BAU President, Assistant Secretary-General for Tripoli Branch Affairs Mr. Mohammed Hammoud, Dr. Moustafa Khalifa and Public Relations Officer Ms. Nala Makkouk. During the visit, Project Supervisor Dr. Khalifa explained the details of the design and its implementation stages. This visit aimed at monitoring the possibility of developing the Abdul Wahab Island, where the winning project was implemented, and the Mena City Corniche. It is worth noting that BAU is preparing a study to develop the island and the public places in the Mena city in line with the university's plan to serve the local community in the north of Lebanon.
