The Human
Rights Center at Beirut Arab University and “Adyan” Foundation in collaboration with the “Protection Project” at Johns Hopkins University organized a discussion group under the title “Islam and protection of the Vulnerable” that took place in Beirut Campus on 15 December 2011 in the presence of a number of religious entities.
At the outset, Dr. Omar Houri, the director of the Human Rights Center at BAU, gave a welcoming speech. He stated the objectives and the works of the center. Then Dr. Nayla Tabbara, the director of the research studies division at Adyan Foundation gave a speech through which she thanked the religious men for their contribution to Adyan Foundation and announced the establishment of the research division for Islamic studies that aims at “re-viewing issues tackled in the absence of unified speech”.
Dr. Mohammad Mattar, the director of the Protection Center at Johns Hopkins University referred to “trafficking” as one of the subjects that pertain to “Protection of the Vulnerable”. He overviewed the different views of the participating religious men and discussed their opinions about the recent Lebanese laws in this respect.
