Under the patronage of his excellency Mr. Jean Oghassabian Minister for Women’s Affairs and the President of Beirut Arab University Prof. Amr Galal El Adawi, the Faculty of Health Sciences, in collaboration with the International Diabetes Federation and the Lebanese Diabetes Society, organized a scientific day on the occasion of the World Diabetes Day entitled: ‘Health Awareness for A Better Future: Women and Diabetes’ on the 14th of November 2017.
During this event, distinguished speakers gave talks on diabetes pathophysiology, epidemiology, challenges, psychology and physical activity in diabetes as well as the recent advances and the future of diabetes management.
Dr. Mohamed Sandid president of the Lebanese Diabetes Society gave a speech which highlighted the challenges in diabetes management and control. Afterwards a series of oral presentations delivered by Prof M. El Nayal Dean of the Faculty of Human Sciences, and a number of staff members of the Faculty of Health Sciences, Medicine. Dentistry and Pharmacy, which illustrated the most updated strategies for prevention, management as well as future approaches of diabetes.
This was followed by a daylong exhibition at the BAU outdoors where interactive and informative booths were installed by FHS students to raise awareness and to unite in the fight against diabetes. Students distributed pamphlets, performed blood glucose tests on students, staff, and the public and gave some counseling. Community members, staff as well as representatives from the Ministries visited the different booths and expressed their appreciation of the different activities organized for the day and they applauded the pivotal role the FHS has played in the community.
