Essam Awad Gooda is currently a full-time professor of Water Resources Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering, Civil & Environmental Engineering Department, Beirut Arab University. In 1982, he got B.Sc. in Civil Engineering, Alexandria University, Egypt. In 1983, he was appointed as a teaching assistant in the Irrigation and Hydraulics Department, Faculty of Engineering, Alexandria University. In 1987, he got M.Sc. and was appointed as Lecturer Assistant. In 1990, he got full Egyptian scholarship to study his Ph.D. at University of Iowa, USA, through a channel system between both Iowa and Alexandria Universities. In 1994, he got his Ph.D. and was appointed as a Lecturer in Irrigation and Hydraulics Department, Alex. University. In 2000, he was appointed as Assistant Professor. In 2007, he was appointed as a Professor of Hydraulics. For more than 25 years, he is practicing not only research but also consultant works in pipeline networks & hydraulic structures and Irrigation and drainage problems. In 2005, he got the license of consultant in Structures related to irrigation and drainage. He is a member of the Scientific and Technical Committee & Editorial Review Board of the “World Academy of Science, Engineering and Technology”. He is always participating in all sport and social activities.



Working since 2013 as PI on a project funded by Council of National Research Center (CNRS). The topic is “Flood Risk  Management in Semi Arid Region in Lebanon. Case Study “Al Asi Catchments”.

Attended and presented a paper “Flood Risk Management in the Semi-Arid Regions of Lebanon, Case Study “Assi River catchments, Ras baalbeck and Fekha, by: Essam Gooda, Prof. of Water Resources Engineering- B.A.U, Dr. Chadi Abdallah, CNRS – Remote Sensing Center, Hamdi Seif, Prof. of Environmental Engineering-B.A.U, Dr. Safaa Baydoun, Research Center for Environment & Development-B.A.U, Eng. Rouya Hdeib, CNRS-Remote Sensing Center , Hilal Obeid, M.S Civil & Environmental Engineering-B.A.U. A project funded by the national Council of Scientific Researches (CNRS) and implemented at Beirut Arab University (BAU) organized by ICFR 2015. 17the international Conference on Flood Resilience, Paris 21-22 September 2015.

Research Fields:

  1. Flood Risk Management.
  2. Developing civil works in irrigation and drainage engineering.
  3. Scour around skew bridge piers and the new methods of protection Works.
  4. Developing networks of  sprinkler and drip irrigation.
  5. Water hammer in irrigation networks. 

Honors and Awards

  • In a competition, among the egyptian universities, organized by the ministry of buplic works and water resources in 1996, my ph.D thesis was chosen as the best ph.D in the field of river engineering and water structures.
  • Award of alex university for scientific encouragement for the year 1999-2000.
