Course Description

The course aims to provide students with a comprehensive study of the main concepts and approaches to the study of syntax and morphology. Topics covered include morphological theory and analysis, word formation processes and morphophonemics, and the relationship between the lexicon and morphology. The study of syntax deals with the basic concepts and approaches to the analysis of syntactic structures. Topics covered include Immediate Component Analysis, phrase-structure grammar, case grammar and others. Students learn how to apply these concepts to both English and Arabic, and at times to other languages as well.
