Course Description

The course aims to introduce students to the main principles of pragmatics. Thus students learn to understand how language users understand utterances, and how they make sense of the texts they read. Fundamental issues dealt with in the course include, but are not limited to, Speech Act Theory, logic in conversation, implicatures, presuppositions, indexicality, etc.
