Course Description

The course aims to provide students with a comprehensive survey of the development of the English language from its earliest Celtic and Anglo-Saxon beginnings, to the contemporary diversity of englishes used in the world. The course also familiarizes students with main historical phases of development of the language (Old, Middle and Modern) while highlighting the various influences of cultural contact throughout its long history.
