Course Description

  The course introduces students to contemporary literary developments that have given rise to alternative fictional writings in English and/or in translation. Novels/short stories from various parts of the world are studied to highlight postcolonial and cross-cultural issues definitive of world fiction in the second half of the 20th century. Though the texts selected depend on the instructor’s choice, works often covered include – but are not limited to – Chinua Achebe, Paulo Coelho, Anita Desai, Tayeb Salih, among others.
