Course Description

  The course introduces students to the major historical, political, cultural and socio-economic developments that gave rise to Modernism in art in general and literature in particular. Familiarizing students with the major narrative techniques, styles, themes and perspectives of early 20th century works, the course is a comprehensive survey of the Modernist novelists who shaped the thought and outlook of 20th century. Writers covered include Conrad, Lawrence, Joyce and Woolf among others.
